Postwar America, approaching age 80, passed away on April 2, 2025 after a lengthy illness. PA was born on Sept. 2, 1945 when the Empire of Japan signed the instrument of unconditional surrender to America and its Allies to end World War II, the single most destructive conflict in world history. Postwar America emerged immediately with the United States as the globe's leading military, economic and moral compass, charged with ensuring peace and prosperity not just for our nation but for all nations committed to democracy and decency.
PA's relationship with the Soviet Union, its former WW2 ally, broke down immediately in acrimonious divorce with each creating a new family unit - NATO and the Warsaw Pact. The ensuing feud led to the Cold War and "hot" conflicts in Korea and Vietnam. Communist China initially joined the Soviet family but later left to try and reunify with Taiwan and Hong Kong (with mixed success) and dominate the global economy (with definite success). The Soviet family dissolved on Dec. 26, 1991 but has attempted to revive to its former glory under Vladimir Putin.
Postwar America had its share of adversity with flashpoints involving JFK, Nixon and two wars fought under the senior and junior Bush administrations. But it persevered through undisputed global leadership underpinned by a strong military deterrent and an unparalleled economic engine that weathered crises and recessions through innovation, free trade, open markets, and a strong dollar.
PA began suffering from illness in 2016 when a new populist movement took power that emphasized cultural wars, protectionist trade, isolationism, deficit spending for tax cuts, intentional weakening of the dollar, and zero conformity to established norms, including international "entanglements" such as NATO.
Postwar America succumbed to its lengthy illness on April 2 with the first volleys of a trade war that alienated its Allies and irrevocablely tore the fabric woven nearly 80 years ago.
There were no survivors.
